Flute Lesson No.44

This was my second lesson after returning to work. Today, like last week, we visited you on a Saturday morning.

As usual, the sound doesn’t switch nicely in octaves when moving from the middle range to the high range. So I could hardly go on.

If I had to pick one thing today, it would be “how to use my chin”. I haven’t got the hang of how to use it yet, but I think I need to be able to use it more flexibly than I thought I could, or I wasn’t aware of it at all until now.

It was pointed out to me that the reason why I can’t switch octaves is that I can’t freely adjust the angle at which I blow into the holes. I hold the flute as usual, but if I don’t blow into the holes, that is, blow directly in front of the flute, or on the contrary, blow all the breath into the holes, the pitch becomes very low.

And it’s true that this is not at all what I intended.

Of course, the above is an extreme example, but the idea was that if you can do this flexibly, you might be able to find an angle where the sound hits somewhere in between. I would like to add this to my practice menu.
