Date of visit: April 27, 2011, around 5:00 p.m.

The 66th beautiful village in total, and the 36th on this trip, is Château-Chalon, a beautiful village in the Franche-Comté region.

Before this, I visited the Royal Saltworks in Al Quesnans, but I got lost on the way to this place more than I expected, so I arrived much later than planned. I decided to go to Lyon tonight, but I don’t know if I can make it before sunset.

Chateau Chalons is a village on top of a cliff hill, and even though it looks not so far from the nearest town on the map and looks incredibly close to the naked eye, somehow it’s far away and the road is steep. The road was tighter than we expected.

It rained on the way to the village, but fortunately the rain stopped just before we arrived. We found a parking lot near the entrance of the village and started sightseeing!

By the way, the view from the village is as you can see.

I really liked this village, because it gave me a sense of history, but at the same time, there were still people living there, and of course, the houses were very old, but there was also an atmosphere that somehow gave me a glimpse of modern life.

It was as if we were walking through a high-class residential area.

It was 5 o’clock in the evening when I arrived, but there were several groups of tourists including myself. It’s quite difficult to go here.

It looks like a residential area, but you can see that they are paying attention to tourism as well. There are many villages that are not necessarily chosen as the most beautiful village in France but do not put much effort into tourism.

There was also a tourist information center, although it was closed at this time.

Now, St. Pierre church is the symbol of the village. It was a very historic and holy church. No one was there except me.

We continue to the end of the church. We passed through the castle gate and came to the view point where we can look down the castle.

The sky is still hazy from the rain, but the view is very nice and I think it helped me to recover from the long drive here.

It was almost 6 o’clock in the evening before I realized it. I’m anxious to go to Lyon as soon as possible, but there is another beautiful village only 5 minutes drive from this village, so I decided to visit it. (To be continued)
