Date and Time of Visit: July 17, 2017, approximately 11:00 a.m.
This day is a tour of the beautiful villages of the Liege region, also known as the Pays de Herve (Herve Plateau). It’s just next to Germany and about 30 minutes by car. It is also very close to the Netherlands. There are 4 beautiful villages in this area, but it is a small area and you can visit them all in one day if you don’t get lost.
Soiron is the second village of the day. I think it was about 30 minutes away from Orne. The weather was cloudy and a little disappointing, but it was a very beautiful village surrounded by green hills. If you don’t mind parking in the center of the village, you could park freely around the village entrance. I was lucky enough to park right in front of the town hall in the center.
The Walloon region is a very small area for us living in Japan as I have introduced many times, but the scenery of the villages in this Liege region seems to be very different from that of the villages we had visited the day before, especially the atmosphere and scenery of the buildings. The size of the stones that make up the buildings is a little smaller and the color of the bricks is orange, which is very typical.
Speaking of the characteristic buildings of this village, there is a church in the center and a castle just outside the entrance of the village. But unfortunately, we couldn’t go inside either of them.
As for the church, we were able to see it from a hill a little outside the village and from the entrance to the village on the opposite side of the castle. I think we could have found another spot with a beautiful view of the village with the castle as well as the church. But in the end, as usual, we finished our visit quickly.
This place was so beautiful that we would definitely revisit it if we are ever in the area in the future.
