March 2009, when I was busy preparing for the Tokyo Marathon, was a very important month in terms of shaping my lifestyle.
WordPress and Twitter.
It was just three years ago in March that I started using these products, which are now indispensable in my daily life.
WordPress
WordPress is an open source blogging software. It is the very software that I use almost every day on this blog.
Yes, it’s probably used by a lot of blogs that are now on their own domain.
The direct reason why I started to use WordPress was to renew my website and blog site for the Tokyo Marathon.
But I didn’t just suddenly start using WP.
It started with the idea of reviving the abandoned yuu-koma.jp with Movable Type (MT) again. Yes, I was actually using MT when I started this blog with my own domain.
However, a few years ago, I had a problem with my domain name being temporarily suspended (simply because I forgot to pay the fee. Fortunately, it was restored soon), I used mixi for my diary for a while. Because at that time, everyone went to mixi.
So, first of all, I started to transfer data from mixi to MT by using a free program. This itself was successful without any trouble, but the problem was the “rebuild” specific to MT afterwards.
This is taking too long and is no longer considered to be available.
That’s why I decided to change my CMS to WordPress, which is “dynamically updated” and was very popular at the time.
Given the comfort of this very dynamic update, and the subsequent speed at which WP is spreading, I think I made a very good decision.
This also definitely affected my lifestyle afterwards.
The reason is also related to Tokyo Marathon. To send out information about my current location. I also bought an iPhone just before the marathon. Because it was rumored that it is easy to twitter with iPhone.
I’ve been interested in this “mini-blog” thing for a while, but I couldn’t figure out how to use it, so I never got an account.
In any case, I think you started at a good time for both.
