Date of visit: May 15, 2012, around midnight
After seeing San Migian, we went on a pilgrimage tour again. Our goal is to visit “Santo Domingo de la Calzada”.
On the way from Saint-Mijean, we saw a very impressive roundabout, so we stopped the car and took some photos.
In fact, this immediate side road is a pilgrimage route.
It was a beautiful day and we saw many pilgrims on foot.
Of course I can’t drive on this road because I am in a car. I took a public road to the next town on the pilgrimage route, Santo Domingo de la Calzada.
Like Puente la Reina, we parked around the side of the old town and started sightseeing.
Oh, apparently there are paradors (Spanish state-run hotels made of palaces, old castles and convents) in this city.
Apparently, if you go to the right side, you can find a lot of things, so I’ll head there.
I don’t understand Spanish, but there was a tour information and a pilgrimage office around here.
There seems to be a fine cathedral a little further on, so I’ll head there.
The cathedral is very big and tall, but I had a hard time to take a picture of it because it is too close to the city with narrow alleys.
In addition, it was the clearest day of the trip and the sun was very strong.
And there was a parador in front of this cathedral. It’s the best location.
By the way, this conspicuous church closes at 12:00. Until about 4 o’clock in the afternoon…. They don’t let us go sightseeing at all.
The sightseeing of this town is finished around the church because it can’t be helped.
The day is blessed with good weather, but not so good for sightseeing, I guess…
I’ll get back on track and continue my journey.
続いての目的地は巡礼路上の街でかつ世界遺産になっている箇所を2つ続けて訪問する予定です。(続く)
