Finished Tokyo Marathon 2011! No.4 Sending out information about your current location #tokyomarathon

iPhonerunningtokyo marathon 2011

I’m going to continue to reflect on the completion of the Tokyo Marathon 2011. This report overlaps with the second edition on twitter, but I’d like to write about the main theme of “location information transmission” here.

To be honest, it would not be an exaggeration to say that I ran the Tokyo Marathon just to do this.

This was the most regrettable part of the last report, so we were not half-hearted in our efforts to send out this information.

I’ve mentioned it a few times already, but “Now Here! “foursquare,” and “Runner Update Service.”

  1. 今ココなう!(Google Mapによるリアルタイム発信、twitterと連動)
  2. foursquare(毎度おなじみ位置情報SNS、twitterと連動)
  3. ランナーアップデートサービス(5km毎の通過時間を通知)

The result was a huge success! It was well received by my friends. I think the know-how I’ve developed over the past two years through in-car camera broadcasts and overseas travel broadcasts was put to good use.

So, I’d like to summarize the situation again here with a view to the next time.

No.1: Ima Koko Now! Transmission by

As expected, the most powerful app is Imakoko Now! It’s an app that didn’t exist two years ago. I didn’t even know it existed until a few months after I finished the Tokyo Marathon two years ago. I was really impressed that a great app had appeared, and that a great time had come.

The photo above was taken the day before at the Tokyo Marathon Expo, but on the day of the marathon, I was running with it in my waist pouch just like this. I was running with it in my waist pouch, checking if the communication was going well.

This is a screenshot of it in action.

They tweet about it regularly. Here’s what they actually tweeted.

There are several shortened URLs in this tweet, the very first of which links to the following site

It was great to be able to keep a record of my GPS information as “Past Coco”. It’s a really convenient way to keep track of where you’ve been and when you’ve been there.

Ima Koko Now! had some trouble with communication at one time, but it seems to have been working well. I was really happy to be able to send out real-time location information, which I couldn’t do two years ago.

No.2: Sending out by foursquare

This was one of the reasons for the great success of the project, and twitter followers said it was very useful to keep track of where they were, especially when Ima Koko Now wasn’t working properly.

foursquareについては、以前の日記でも書きましたとおり予めVenueの新規登録をしておいたことが本当に役立ちました。(過去の日記:foursquare 東京マラソン用にVenue登録してみた

There are two good things about being pre-registered.

The first point is that it was easy to check in on the day. There were fewer venues related to the Tokyo Marathon than I expected. It would have been impossible to create one from scratch on the day of the event.

Then the second point is “I became strong in the geography of the course”. When I registered, I checked the location coordinates on the map with google maps, and this helped me to remember the address and location information.

It’s true that there is a sign that says “○km point” every 1km, but I really felt how having the course and distance in mind beforehand has the effect of reducing the mental burden. (I plan to write a separate diary about this.)

And most of all, I was very happy to have “won two Mayors” and “won the Super Mayor badge” on the day. It was a wonderful and memorable event.

No.3: Runner update service

To be honest, this is every 5km and I wasn’t sure about the timing of the update, so to be honest I didn’t think it was as important as the above two methods.

That said, it’s an official site, so my friend was referring to it more than I thought he would.

The exact time by the “timing chip” as an example will be recorded, so in that sense it was probably the most accurate information.

以上、事前にもっとも力を入れた「現在地情報発信」は、その甲斐もあって大成功に終わりました。
