Finished Tokyo Marathon 2011! No.7 Post-finish flow #tokyomarathon

runningtokyo marathon 2011

I’m sorry to be posting this every day, but I’m trying to write this from a runner’s point of view as much as possible, and to make the most of the experience of running twice, so I don’t want it to be just a “I finished running” post.

Well, today I’d like to write about what happens after the runner finishes. This is something that you can only see if you have really run.

First of all, there is a red floor at the finish line. So this is where the exact time is measured.

Until last time, there were people who took a commemorative photo after the finish, but this time I was warned not to take a photo. Nevertheless, I took a photo, but I understand that I had to do so when I assumed that a large number of people would finish the race.

At this point, there are people who are dragging their feet and look like they are in pain, but they are still finishing the race, so their expressions and moods are very cheerful. Some people were so moved that they were crying, and I often found myself crying along with them.

So, what’s going on from here? I was tweaking the whole time, so no pictures. I’ll explain it along with this video.

「給食、給水」

First of all, you can also have a meal and water supply after the finish.

Tokyo Water

You can continue to do so. This is similar to what we saw many times during the race. The big difference is that you can refuel with peace of mind because you have already finished the race.

「フィニッシャータオル授与」

You can get a commemorative towel at the beginning like a good job. I took a picture of it later, but here it is.

I remember this towel because it was so warm and saved my life two years ago, but that’s because it was so cold at the finish line two years ago. I was able to wipe my wet body with the towel, and it served as a blanket, which was warm and comfortable.

But this time, it was sunny and the temperature was just right, so I didn’t even sweat at all because I walked all the way from 38km away. So I didn’t feel as grateful as I did two years ago, although it may have been the second time.

And when I got it, my first impression was that it was tiny! The towel was large enough to cover the body of two years ago, but this time it only covered the shoulders and back, at most. I’m sure you’ll agree. It’s a little disappointing.

「計時チップはずし」

This is the one that participants must have on their shoes.

Remove this. Ask the volunteer staff to remove it with nippers or something. Make sure you receive the chip that was removed and proceed to the next step.

「完走メダル授与」

The finish line is completed when you go a little further and exchange the timing chip that you just had removed. You will be awarded with this medal upon exchange. At this point, you can strongly feel “I finished the race! You can feel it strongly.

「サロンパス授与」

After the towels, this is one of the disappointing things compared to two years ago. Last time I was given an air salon pass, but this time I was only given a stick-on type. I wonder why they stopped spraying, because the application area of the stick-on type is very small.

「その他給食」

It seemed to be supplied with oranges and Soy Joy, but I didn’t need it, so I omitted it here. However, because the staff of this place was extremely few, it was a big traffic jam here. I felt the problem of management a little. The traffic jam here was honestly annoying because there was the luggage pickup which had been deposited after this.

「荷物受け取りエリア確認、受け取り」

At the end of the race, you will collect your luggage that you left before departure. The block you deposited is printed on your number, so check your number again and head to the appropriate area.

I asked the person in charge to check my number again, and then I got my luggage. Compared to the last time, I felt that the process has become much more efficient.

「更衣エリアへ移動」

You will receive your luggage and go further to the changing area. The women’s changing area is a little further back. I felt a little sorry for them because they were tired after finishing the race.

「待ち合わせスペース」

After I finished changing and stretching, I headed home. In my case, some friends had come to pick me up, so I decided to meet them here. The meeting place was the plaza in the west area, where the runners’ reception and the EXPO were held yesterday.

I actually had no idea this meeting place existed until this moment, I only found out about it through a twitter exchange. I don’t think this was the case two years ago. But I was relieved to see my friend, so that’s good.
