The 10th National Sweets Marathon in Chiba Part 2: The day of the marathon and how it started

09. Sportsrunning

It’s been a bit of a while since I’ve done this, but here’s a quick recap of the 10th National Sweets Marathon in Chiba, which I participated in last Sunday.

8:30 Pancakes at Tokyo Station: the game begins in the morning!

We will use JR to go to the venue, Inage Kaihin Koen in Chiba. Once we gathered at Tokyo Station, the starting point of the event, we enjoyed sweets and headed for the venue with renewed determination.

The game begins in the morning!

Arriving at the venue: Preparation for the start

Take a bus from JR Inage Station to the venue, Inage Kaihin Park.

It was already crowded with many people.

After arriving, we immediately went to the headquarters venue for registration.

Our team will be competing in the Shuffle Relay Marathon. Our number is C5009.

The numbers for the relay marathon seem to start with C5001. It seems that the numbers are numbered in order of application, so does C5009 mean that I am the ninth applicant? I think it is true that I applied early.

Confirmation of course and running order

First, the course.

The course layout is flat and very runnable at 2km overall. It will be nice to be able to run along the ocean.

There is an “aid station” with about 500m to go. After all, there is no point in participating in the race if you don’t refuel here!

You might want to consider a loss of 30 seconds to 1 minute.

And the running order. This was decided at the running session held two days before the event.

Our goal was 6 minutes per kilometer, and if we lost some time and asked runners who were used to running to do their best, we could clear the time limit of 4 hours and 30 minutes. However, if we didn’t decide the order beforehand, there might be confusion on the day, so we decided in advance.
