“Bornes-les-Mimosas” is a village that has only recently, in September 2024, joined the ranks of France’s most beautiful villages. Unlike Entrevaux, which I introduced in my previous blog—a village nestled deep in the mountains of the Alpes-Maritimes—this village is close to the sea. However, it’s perched on a high hill a few kilometers inland from the coast.

The day before, I stayed at a small hotel in a town with a sea view, and I headed to this village early the next morning. Even though it had only been recognized as a beautiful village a week before my visit, I was surprised by the number of hotels and restaurants, suggesting its popularity as a tourist destination. There were also plenty of souvenir shops, and the village had a very spacious parking area. Perhaps due to the off-season, parking was free during my visit. The parking lot is located on a high hill at the edge of town, yet it’s close enough to the village center that you can easily walk there, making it very accessible for tourists.

The weather was beautiful that morning, and arriving just after sunrise, I was treated to the sight of the village bathed in morning light—it was stunning. The village itself is well-maintained, with traditional stone buildings that have been preserved while integrating restaurants and souvenir shops without disrupting the scenery. It felt like a truly high-quality tourist destination. The accommodations also looked nice, so in hindsight, I think it would have been lovely to stay there rather than in the nearby port town the previous night. That port town, however, also had a charming atmosphere.
