Date of visit: May 15, 2012, around 2:00 p.m.
Burgos, one of the highlights of the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, is home to the Burgos Cathedral, a World Heritage Site.
I have seen many cathedrals in the past all over Europe, but this one in Burgos is definitely the most beautiful and artistic. It was a really impressive cathedral.
It seemed to take longer than expected from Atapuerca and we arrived in town around 1:30 PM.
Park your car in the parking lot by this gate and head for the cathedral.
Even from the gates at the entrance of the city, the expectations are high. We are really blessed with the weather on this day. I think this blue sky is hard to find in Japan.
When you go through the gate, the cathedral jumps in front of you.
It’s big and it’s fine.
It was recognized as a World Heritage Site in 1984, which can be said to be a very early recognition.
The outside was gorgeous, but the inside was absolutely gorgeous as well.
There are many cathedrals of this kind that are gorgeous on the outside, but many of them are simple on the inside. But this Burgos Cathedral is very artistic and gorgeous inside.
What impressed me at times was the pipe organ in both wings. It was the first time for me to see such an arrangement of the organ.
A very beautiful sight.
I’ve never been so impressed with a cathedral before.
