Date of visit: May 12, 2013, around 12:00 a.m.
The tour of the beautiful villages along the Dordogne River is my starting point, I guess you could say.
After an absence of almost three years, the Dordogne River returns to Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, which at the time was not yet on the list of most beautiful villages.
This village is a little more than 30 minutes by car from Limouille, also on the Dordogne River.
The village is of course characterized by this. The château quietly watches the gentle flow of the Dordogne River.
You will enter the village with this heroic sight.
Just after entering the village, there is an area with souvenir shops and restaurants, where you can park your car.
It’s a little bit far from here to the castle (but it takes about 10 minutes to walk or not).
To visit the castle, you can take this road to the parking lot behind the castle (*we had to pay).
We parked in the parking lot of the chateau and went into the village as soon as possible. The color of this place is just like Dordogne, and it makes me feel very relieved because this place is the origin of my tour of the French countryside.
We had enough time so we decided to go inside the chateau.
This photo was taken when I turned around after entering through the entrance.
The inside of the chateau is a museum of an old European castle, but it has a lot of unexpected and fun things to see. There is a real medieval RPG world there.
There is also an exhibition of stone throwers outside.
I’ve been wondering about this for a while, but it seems that the main purpose of this large stone thrower was to destroy castle walls when attacking an opponent’s castle or town by hitting the walls with huge stones with this machine. I see.
Of course the view from the chateau is fantastic. The weather was a little bit not good, though.
Beautiful views of the Dordogne Valley.
As I mentioned at the beginning of this article, I visited the Dordogne River, where the most beautiful villages in France are located, three years ago.
この新しくリストアップされたカステルノー・ラ・シャペル、実はそのときの訪れたBeynac et Cazenac(ベナック・エ・カズナック)とほぼ隣接しています。
So you can see the castle of Benac in the village from the chateau.
This village, we were actually passing through on our way from Limouille to here in Castelnau-la-Chapelle. Benac is one of my favorite of the beautiful villages, so if I had more time, I would have stopped by. (I have a feeling I’ll probably visit this area again.)
After finishing the tour of the chateau, which had many attractions, we went back to the parking lot. Finally, we took a picture of the view from below.
Then we head to the next village.
