Date of visit: May 9, 2013, around 11:00 a.m.
We have arrived in France for the seventh day. This day’s sightseeing was also focused on visiting beautiful villages.
Our first stop was Capdenac-le-Haut, on the Lot River.
In fact, this village was chosen as one of the most beautiful villages in 2010, and I didn’t know about its existence when I started my tour in April/May 2010. I didn’t know it existed when I started the tour in April/May 2010, so there is a possibility that it was selected after May 2010.
I’m not sure about this information, but in any case, as of 2013, it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful villages and one that I had not yet visited.
It takes about an hour to reach this village from Salla, where we stayed the night before. The weather is fine. Plenty of parking space. We were able to park without any problem.
Cap d’Auc-le-Haut is a medieval fortress on a small hill. Its history is very old, some say from the Neolithic period. There seems to be an important Neolithic site nearby.
It also played an important role as a base in the Roman and Gaulish periods, and there is a record that Simon de Montfort, a key figure in the Albigensian Crusade in the Middle Ages, occupied this fortress and used it as a base.
After all, the first thing that jumps out at you is this tower.
It seems to be able to go inside, so I’ll head over and take a look.
As you walk up the gentle slope to the tower, you will see the central square of the village and the village hall on your left.
And the church, of course.
There was also a restaurant.
The entrance to the tower is at the tourist information of the village (marked with an “i”), where you can pay about 2 euros to go up to the top of the tower.
The view from a high place is still beautiful.
At the entrance of this tower, there is a tourist information center and a souvenir shop, where we could buy some goods of the beautiful village in France.
It was especially great to get the latest Michelin map of the beautiful village. The logo is also a new version. Now I don’t have to worry about missing the beautiful villages that were selected after 2010.
All of France’s beautiful villages are small, with populations of less than 2,000 people, so they are not shown on maps of large areas, and even if they were, it would be very difficult to find them.
This official map is great because it shows all the beautiful villages in a wide area.
After the sightseeing of the tower, we went around the village. The beautiful alleyways are still there.
The remnants of the ancient and medieval fortresses can also be seen throughout the village.
It was a very satisfying visit with beautiful views from high above and the latest in beautiful village goods.
