Gmail in iPhone Safari, has the interface changed?
I was checking Gmail via iPhone Safari on the train this morning, and I felt that the interface had changed a little. The right side of the folder of the label is □ (square).
So I checked the feed of Google Reader and found something.
New in Gmail Labs: Smart Labels – Official Gmail Blog
How to do it is very simple. In the Lab under “Setting”, enable “Smart Label”. That’s it!
Oh, by the way, I set the display language to “English(US)” in Gmail and Google Reader to reflect the latest information and functions as much as possible.
So, what is this “Smart Label”? In a nutshell.
「ECサイト系のメルマガなど → ”Bulk”」
「メーリスなど → ”Forums”」
「ネットバンクや各種お知らせ → ”Notification”」
and it automatically gives you a label.
However, in my case, because I use the label quite thinly and complicatedly, I thought that it was not so effective as it was in this article, but it was not such a thing at all.
There’s nothing better than being able to sort through multiple labels/tags and categorize incoming mail from various, multi-dimensional angles. I have a much better view of my inbox.
In addition, Google is thinking very well. Instead of using labels as I do, they have optimized and refined labeling. I’m impressed.
A view of each automatic label
Let’s take a look at what each of the automatic labels looks like. First of all, “Bulk” is a brilliant way to label emails from e-commerce sites (well, all of Rakuten…).
I belong to several orchestra-related MLs. I’m a member of several orchestra-related MLs, especially Little Jack, and I’m a member of not only the general ML but also the management and technical MLs.
Of course, I have detailed filter settings, but they were too detailed, and I was thinking of creating a larger filter, when this automatic labeling feature was introduced.
“Notifications” is also quite useful. It’s probably categorized by keywords like “notifications”.
Gmail is getting more and more convenient. I don’t even feel like using a local mailer anymore.
Lastly: Gmail is really convenient for both iPhone and PC.
By the way, I often hear a story like “iPhone is hard to use mail”, but for me who is doing Gmail browsing with Safari, I feel what it is.
Well, I can’t say that it’s easy to write directly from the web application, but if I only write a sentence, I write it once in another iPhone application, such as ATOK Pad, and email it using the function on the application as it is, or just copy and paste and send it in the web application again! I don’t feel any inconvenience at all.
It’s really great… Google is still doing very well, so you can enjoy the benefits of free, but if they made Gmail even a little bit paid, you’d get a huge benefit. Well, I don’t want that to happen… Gmail is great!
