Date of visit: April 28, around 2:00 p.m.
After leaving the beautiful village of Wan in the Beaujolais region, we headed to the other side of the country, to the northeast of Lyon, to Pérouges.
This village is very easy to reach among the most beautiful villages in France, because it is close to the highway stretching northeast from Lyon and can be reached by public transportation such as bus from Lyon.
But I’m renting a car, so it doesn’t matter much…
It is a village where you can feel the attitude of putting a lot of effort into tourism. There are parking lots all over the place. But all of them are charged about 2 euros….
It is so big that a tourist bus can stop there. That’s why there are so many tourists compared to other villages. Well, I was disappointed to be honest (laughs).
We got back on our feet and started sightseeing. The characteristic of the village is the small stone wall houses. The stones of the road are also small. I don’t think there were many villages made of fine stones.
There are certainly more tourists than in other villages, but even so, it’s not a major tourist destination, so if you go to the back alleys, you’ll find very few people.
The central square was very impressive, with a collection of rather large scale buildings.
The village is very easy to get to from Lyon, and is also listed in the famous “Chikyu no Arukikata” (Walking Guide to the Earth), so if you have a chance to visit Lyon, why don’t you visit it?
