Date of visit: April 30, around 11 a.m.
Riquewihr is probably the most famous of the most beautiful villages in France, located in Alsace. You can find it in some guidebooks.
It is about a 15 – 20 minute drive from Egisheim. In fact, Riquewihr is located in the central area where Alsace wines are produced. There are many vineyards around the road to the village.
We’ve found another “wine road”! “The Alsace Wine Route.”
It is probably the most famous village among the most beautiful villages in France, so there were a lot of tourists. Because of that, we had a hard time to park.
After taking a picture of the entrance as promised, we started sightseeing.
This village is located on a small hill with a gentle slope. I entered the village from the gate at the bottom of the hill.
The main street is several hundred meters high and is lined with houses, restaurants, souvenir shops, and a very lively atmosphere.
The buildings in the villages in Alsace have this kind of atmosphere, but Riquewihr was like a village that condensed all the elements of Alsace into a small area.
It is as beautiful as if I had wandered into the world of a fairy tale. But, there were many tourists, so I might not have felt at home.
Even though it’s not far from Colmar, it’s a bit difficult to get to, but I highly recommend a visit if you’re ever in the Alsace region!
The next stop is Hunawihr, a village almost next door….
