May 2014 Italy’s Most Beautiful Village Tour Field Report No.4

201405 Italy

Local time: April 26, 2014

The second day was cloudy, rainy and sometimes thundery. Anyway, it was a bad day.

Due to a mistake in the flight arrangements, we arrived in Naples separately.

However, the beautiful village which we aimed at first on this day was closed due to the road construction 3km before. We couldn’t visit it after all. We had to take another road from the east to visit the village, but we had to go to Capodichino airport at 12:00, so we gave up. But we still had time to go to Palazzo Caserta, a World Heritage Site on the outskirts of Naples.

Arrived in the city of Caserta at 10:40. There is a parking lot under the palace. We parked our car here and started sightseeing.

Let’s go to Caserta Palace, one of the largest palaces in Europe built in the 18th century by the Bourbon dynasty.

It’s just so spacious and gorgeous.

The courtyard is as huge as Versailles. It is so far that there is a paid bus to go to the center.

Of course, I didn’t have much time, so I could only visit the inside of the palace.

I went to the airport to pick up my wife and decided to go back to Naples since I will probably go back next year.

Capodichino is less than 30 minutes from Caserta.

After having a light meal at the airport, we went to Pompeii ruins. However, as soon as we arrived, it was raining heavily and sometimes thundering. We waited for about 30 minutes, but there was no sign of stopping, so we left Pompeii and headed for Amalfi.

The road was a mountain road in the rain, but I was able to drive without much difficulty. Even though the rain foot has subsided a lot, the fog was still terrible.

We couldn’t get off at the two beautiful villages we were going to visit on the way to Amalfi, so we just passed them.

I decided to give up today’s sightseeing and go to the hotel in Amalfi where I was going to stay tomorrow.

The traffic jam in the city was still the same, but we arrived at the hotel safely. It was so crowded that I would have panicked in the past. I was really impressed that I had gotten used to it, and went to the hotel.

It was still raining at this point, so we both decided to take a nap.

When I woke up around 7pm, the rain had stopped. We went to the city center for a light city tour and dinner.

View of Amalfi at sunset and dinner at a restaurant.

It was the first time I had a leisurely meal on this trip.

明日の天気を期待して今夜はゆっくりと眠りたいと思います。
