Last day in Corsica, from Bonifacio to Piana, then fly to Marseille – 2013 France Real Time Part 5

2013 France real-time

I’m currently in Toulouse. This is the first update in a while.

It was the last day in Corsica on May 5. Just before we left Bonifacio, where we had stayed the night before, the weather started to improve, so I took some photos of the city from the other side of the river and the Citadel towering over the cliffs from the harbor.

It was a really great city.

Now here’s the hard part. Across the road from where we went to Ajaccio, we passed by there and went to Piana, another most beautiful village in France. It was a total of 3 hours route, but the road was just too steep. And it was quite tough with this car.

The bay overlooking Piana is recognized as a World Heritage Site, but the weather was getting worse and the town itself didn’t seem to be putting much effort into tourism…

Moreover, it was a very disappointing village because it was difficult to find a good shooting point.

In the end, that was it for sightseeing in Corsica. We never got close to Ajaccio in the end, and we flew to the airport to Marseille, seeing the whole city from afar.

It was raining in Marseille when we arrived. There was no restaurant open at the airport on Sunday, so we had no choice but to go to Burger King. It was the only restaurant open.

It’s quite common in independent travel with a forced itinerary, though.

We’ll stay at the hotel in the airport and rent a car from here. Now the mainland part of France will begin.
