On April 29th, we started from Annecy in the Alpes region, visited two beautiful villages, and then headed to Besançon, the central city of the Franche-Comté region of France, via a route that circles Lake Geneva about halfway.
It would be easier if we could cross Lake Geneva… (laughs)
The route looks like this.
Yes, you’ll be passing through Switzerland. Geneva, the largest French-speaking city in Switzerland, is located southwest of Lake Geneva.
From Yvoire, one of the most beautiful villages, you will drive to Geneva. On the way to Geneva, you will see Lake Geneva on the right side of the road.
After a while, we arrived at the border with Switzerland. It is Schengen agreement, so there is no check or anything.
From Geneva, we took the expressway to Lausanne, but as expected of a city, we got very lost. Compared to France, the directional signs are not so easy to see. Maybe I’m just getting used to it…

In a word, it is “Annual Expressway Passport”.
The vinyls are usually sold at gas station kiosks, but they don’t always have them. So it was hard to find a store that sells it while driving in a big city. But I managed to get one. This year’s color is like this. It’s expensive….
So now we can get on the highway safely. I got lost, but somehow I managed to get there.
It was a relief to ride so far. It was certainly OK to just ride to Lausanne, but it was also difficult to get through the suburbs of Lausanne. The signs were still hard to understand. What is Switzerland…?
You can see Besançon in this picture, but I was really nervous because I couldn’t see the name of the place until the very last minute.
Well, thanks to that, we managed to get onto the highway heading north to Besançon.
Now we just have to go to the French border. There was a big traffic jam near the border, but we were able to go through in about 20 minutes.
It is here that I tried to edit the above process with the fast-forward movie.
And after this, we’re going to take this road on the French side.

We headed to Besançon.
By the way, the road from this village to the town of Ornans is named “Route de Courbet”.
(Courbet) Courbet is the painter Courbet. Ornans is his hometown. We didn’t stop at Ornans, but we drove through the city. It was a very beautiful city.
