Date of visit: May 17, 2012, around 4:00 p.m.
After Saagun, the pilgrimage route passes through several small centers before reaching León, the main city of Castilla y León.
Actually, my visit to Leon was not on May 15 but two days later on May 17, but it was the next town after Saagun in the order of the route, so the chronological order of this diary is switched only for Leon.
Now, I’ve been to many European countries in the past, but there are really many artistic and inspiring cities in the Spanish provinces.
León, the main city on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, is one such city.
It’s the kind of city where even a normal photo becomes an artistic work of art, like an HDR image.
The street leading to the cathedral is very lively and the design and color of the building is really like a museum.
Then we arrived at the square in front of the cathedral.
Of course, the cathedral is beautiful.
But I couldn’t get inside. Hmm, was it siesta?
San Isidro Church is another tourist attraction in this Leon.
This is a guided tour only, we did not go inside because of time constraint. 17th was the day before returning the car and we had a hard schedule as usual, because we were running out of time.
And as I’ve written before in this blog, there is an architecture designed by Gaudi in this city.

“Casa de Botines.
This is actually the office of an active bank.
The design is very Gaudi.
It was a wonderful city where you can see pictures everywhere. I am full of happiness to be able to visit such a city. I might have stayed here for a night. (I think I’ll probably come back…)
17日はこの後サラマンカまでロングドライブするのですが、巡礼路ドライブの旅は再び15日の行程に戻ろうと思います。(続く)
