Is the weather in Italy fickle? May 2014 Italy’s Most Beautiful Village Tour Field Report No.5

201405 Italy

Local time: April 27, 2014

The weather was rainy again on this third day. The weather in Italy is really fickle. Sometimes it stopped raining on the way to the beautiful village, but it started pouring as soon as we arrived…

Still, we did the beautiful village tour almost exactly as we had planned in advance.

First, the beautiful villages around Amalfi, where we stayed the day before. 3 are recognized.

One of them, Furore, is located at the top of the cliff, and we gave up visiting and photographing it on this day because of the thick fog as the day before.

The second one, “Conca dei Marini”, is located below Furore, so I could visit it, but I couldn’t take any satisfactory photos. The only thing I could take was the town of Amalfi from the village.

But the third village “Atrani”, this is a beautiful village adjacent to Amalfi. I was able to appreciate this place slowly.

Near the entrance of the village, just because there was a large public parking lot in the cliffs around the border with Amalfi, I parked my car there and went sightseeing. This parking lot was very convenient, and it can be used for sightseeing in Amalfi. It seems to be connected to the center of Amalfi by an underground tunnel.

And this “Atrani” is so beautiful. Could it be better than Amalfi? That’s what I thought.

It’s only a 10-minute walk from Amalfi, and I would definitely recommend it along with sightseeing in Amalfi.

Afterwards, we went to Albori, a suburb of Salerno.

In addition, when we were driving along the Amalfi Coast from Amalfi to Salerno, there seemed to be an accident in front of us and there was a big traffic jam. The road is narrow and you should be careful driving.

Next, we went a little further south to a village called “Castellabate”.

It had stopped raining until we arrived here, but as we approached, it started pouring.

I’m really fickle.

Still, somehow we managed to catch a glimpse of some sunshine while sightseeing.

There was still enough time to go around, so we went further south to a village called “Aieta” in Calabria, but we gave up because of heavy rain and fog.

Check in to the hotel in a small town on the outskirts of Aieta. This is the end of sightseeing for this day.

It was a Sunday, and we were the only guests in the hotel, which is located quite far from the city, probably because it was off-season. There was no restaurant in the hotel, so we moved to the restaurant area (about 3 restaurants) about 300m away from the hotel to enjoy the warm local restaurant food.

The rain still doesn’t stop.

Will there ever be a day when we are blessed with good weather?
