Date and time of visit: April 27, 2017, approximately 12:00 p.m.

The tour of Portugal’s regional cities continues. Braga, which I introduced last time, was a stopover before my visit to Porto, and Amarante, which I’ll introduce here, was a stopover on my way to my next destination after my stay in Porto.

The location is around here (see map below). The city was relatively close to the A4 highway that connects Porto to the Alto Douro area inland, so it was easy to stop by.

In addition.

This was the order of visit.

So we stopped for a bit on the way up the Douro River from Porto, Amarante, which is a very small town.

The highlight is the Church of San Gonzalo, which should be called the landmark of the city. The rest is probably just walking around the city.

Apparently, there was a museum of Amadeo de Souza Cardoso, a local contemporary painter. We didn’t visit the museum because of the time (it was noon, so it was closed), though it was written in the book “Globe-Trotter” that it was quite large and worth seeing for a small town.

Instead, we were able to have a leisurely lunch in this city. I actually ordered an offal dish, which is a specialty of Porto, but I didn’t eat it at all in Porto. But to be honest, it wasn’t very tasty. I didn’t like offal much to begin with.

それでも比較的ゆっくりとできたので、よい休憩ができました。(続く)
