Switzerland is a small country, but it is a very mountainous country, and it is in the Alps. It is true that the road network in Switzerland is very well maintained, but driving over the mountains is tough. This is especially true when you are crossing language zones.
Rougemont, our 15th beautiful village, is a French-speaking village located in the mountains further away from Gruyère. It is a village in the Gruyère National Park. We stayed in Gruyere the day before, and went to Rougemont after sightseeing in Gruyere such as chateau in the morning. It was not so far from Gruyère, but it took more than an hour because of the mountain route.
It seems to be possible to visit by train. This area is different from Switzerland and Italy, as expected of Switzerland.
Rougemont certainly looks like a mountain resort with a nice atmosphere, and it wasn’t particularly old or historic.
But the church at the entrance of the village was built by the Cluny school in the 11th century and renovated in the 16th century.
But the wooden houses in the village were very beautiful and large. They must be very crowded in the season. These wooden houses can be seen in many places in Switzerland, but I felt that they are different from those in German speaking countries.
In particular, this auberge (L’Auberge du Cheval Blanc) was built in 1688 and is the most famous auberge in the village.
As you can see, there were many accommodation facilities and shops (mostly related to winter sports) in the village, so it might be a good idea to stay there regardless of the season and enjoy the surrounding wilderness. The most beautiful villages in Switzerland seem to have good accommodation facilities in general.
